How allergy sufferers meet the flowering season

Spring … The sun is warming harder, the birds are singing louder. The first grass has already appeared, and very soon everything will bloom. It seems that everyone is happy in the spring. But some await her arrival with fear. For them, signs of spring are a runny nose, itching, watery eyes, red spots on the skin, coughing, and even choking. These people suffer from hay fever – an allergy to pollen from plants (hay fever). And their torment begins as soon as that tree, shrub or grass blooms, to the pollen of which they have a reaction.

Can anyone help with this disease?

For allergies, it is recommended to avoid contact with the allergen. If the reaction appears on food, animal hair, then sticking to this recommendation is easy. But what if you have hay fever, and the air is literally filled with pollen?

Of course, the problem can be solved radically – just leave for this period in another locality (city, country). But few can afford it. After all, usually the flowering time of a plant can last up to one and a half months. Therefore, other solutions must be sought.

Find “your” allergen
First of all, you should determine the allergen. The fact is that there are about a hundred plants with allergenic pollen. Which of them is exactly “yours” can be determined using specific allergological diagnostics. Knowing your “wrongdoer”, it is easier to plan preventative measures.

Next, you need to determine the dangerous time for you from the flowering calendar and be especially careful during this period.

Follow a hypoallergenic diet
Often hay fever is accompanied by an allergy to food, and the latter can occur only during the flowering season. That is why in a dangerous period it is worth abandoning products that can enhance the response to pollen. In spring, you should be wary of apples, cherries, carrots, strawberries, in the summer it is desirable to limit cereal dishes in the diet, from the second half of summer to autumn – beets, citrus fruits, honey, melon.
Take antiallergenic drugs
It seems to be self-evident. But not everyone knows that taking antihistamines should not be done when your tears have run down or your nose has run down, but in advance, preferably at least a couple of weeks before the expected flowering (this is where the flowering calendar comes in handy). The fact is that the medicine must accumulate in the body, then it will be effective.

Remember that antihistamines need to be changed from time to time, as addiction occurs to them.

Minimize contact with allergen
Of course, meetings with pollen cannot be completely eliminated, but everything can be done so that they are minimal.

For a dangerous period, it will be necessary, no matter how offensive, to limit trips out of town.
Coming from the street, immediately wash your face and hands, rinse your mouth, rinse your eyes and nose, take a shower. Send clothes immediately to the washing machine.
Take vitamins, especially C and group B, to strengthen the body’s defenses.
Remember that stress, the use of certain medications, smoking, and polluted air can provoke an allergic reaction.
Do wet cleaning at home every day. Windows and windows should be kept closed, and the apartment should be ventilated when there is no wind, it is better in rainy weather.
There is even such a method of dealing with allergies called “clean room”. Its essence lies in the fact that a person spends several hours in an airtight room, where dust is completely absent and where purified air is supplied. Two or three sessions in such a room – and the signs of hay fever pass, however, not forever. The procedure will have to be repeated for three to four years, so that the effect becomes permanent.
Take a course of autolymphocytotherapy
This is one of the modern ways to deal with allergies. It lies in the fact that the patient is taken blood from a vein, leukocytes are extracted from it (and they are the main cells of the immune system), they are cleaned and injected back. As a result, the susceptibility to the allergen decreases, the symptoms disappear.

Take a course of allergen-specific immunotherapy
Another way to treat allergies is something similar to vaccination. Its essence is that the patient is given an allergen in small doses, as a result of which the immune system begins to produce antibodies to him, and immunity is formed against the “culprit” of the disease. In the first couple of years, allergic reactions noticeably weaken, after a few years the disease may even recede.

It is only necessary to start such a course in advance, optimally – in the fall, so that by the spring the body has managed to develop protection against harmful pollen.
